...is making me miss my car.

Kinja'd!!!

One of those days where I get some buyers’ remorse that I shouldn’t have bought Valka and kept driving Kristin in winter.

I had no idea the hood was hinged at the front. Neat

GXP?

I had a normal ‘06 in the same color that I bought in early ‘09 and hated it. Suspension was too soft, and having to get out to put the top down got old fast. And I couldn’t even fit a motorcycle helmet in the trunk.

It ran out of gas on the test drive - I should’ve taken that as a sign. Traded it in about 7 months later on a ‘08 Focus - my 1st auto car in 13 years. That’s how much I disliked it :)

Nope... 2.4L. The exact twin of the car you hated, lol.

Oh god. Bigger projects I might just remove the hood

I wish they were in my price range when I was car shopping. Ended up with a turbo Cobalt SS. Same engine as the GXP.

I’d owned a ‘91 and a ‘00 Miata years before I bought the Solstice. The day I went to look at the Solstice, I was also supposed to go look at a ‘06 Miata, but ended up with the Solstice.

I obviously liked it enought to buy it, but I didn’t really push the car on the test drive - especially after it ran out of gas. So I only found out it was too soft for my liking the first time I took my favorite cloverleaf exit. I also experienced not so good gas mileage - 22.5mpg over 8800 miles (compared to 27.0mpg over 7600 miles in an ‘03 Miata I’d owned later, and 25.6mpg in the ‘06 Miata over 3,100 miles). And those tires were expensive to replace.

I ended up buying that ‘06 Miata 4 years later, and kicked myself in the ass for not going to drive that other car.

I actually had a ‘90 Miata before my Solstice as well (well, partial ownership).

Solstice and Miata seem like they target the same market, but there are subtle differences. Solstice leans more on the cruiser side (thus the softer suspension) and the transmission is definitely not as short-shift than the Miata. Though with the softer suspension and heavier chassis, Solstice makes it up with a bit more torque. Not my words... but words of Keichii Tsuchiya of Best Motoring.

I suppose the one you drive didn’t have the Z0K Club Sport package (which I don’t think came out until 2008 or 9), that changes a few things, among them are stiffer shocks.

Agreed on the fuel economy though, it’s surprisingly thirsty for a 2.4L. I have similar fuel economy in my G6 before it, with a 3.5L V6.

Correction: Springs not shocks. But yeah, you’ll still end up with a stiffer suspension with less travel.
